My drawings include both drawings of the human figure, and still life.
I begin all life drawing by mapping the parameters of the figure to create an “envelope,” identifying the angle changes for the figure, and the inner curves that will define the figure’s pose. This process is important for accurate proportions, and places the figure in such a way that is pleasing to the eye. It also unconsciously directs the viewer's gaze to the intended focal point. One of my favorite perspectives is “foreshortening,” where part of the body is closer to the viewer (as in, for example, “After the Seizure”). I enjoy conveying figures from less common perspectives, which suggests new, creative ways for people to see.
